Braintree is a town that is located in Essex and it has a population of around 42,000 people. Evidence suggests that Braintree is over 4000 years old and at the beginning it was a small village.
However when the Romans invaded their guilt to roads which strengthens transport links to the area. From here the town steadily grew until it was granted a market charter in 1890. During the 17th century Braintree was very prosperous thanks to the wool trade. However tragedy struck in 1665 as almost half of the population of 2300 were killed in the Great Plague.
Today Braintree is a busy town with a cinema, shopping centre, bowling alley, bars, restaurants and several public houses. Each June the Braintree and Bocking Carnival is held which begins with a procession made up of floats that goes through the town centre. During this time there is also a fair, sideshows and much more.
