About Canning Town:

Canning town is located in the London borough of Newham and it is an area that is situated on what used to be the London docks. Today Canning Town hosts Rathbone Market which it is well known for. Extensive redevelopment is hoping to transform the area from one that is quite deprived into one that has more opportunities for local people and a number of new jobs available.

Before the 19th century the area was mainly marshlands which could only be accessed by boat. From here development was undertaken so that people could live and work in the Docklands area.

Canning Town Station is the railway station and services the area which is in Travelcard Zone 3. As the area is so busy with commuters it will not come as a surprise to learn that more than 8 million passengers pass through the doors of this station on an annual basis.
