Clerkenwell is in central London in the London Borough of Islington and up until 1965 it was part of the metropolitan borough of Finsbury. The area was named after a wail and this was rediscovered back in 1924.
In the past Clerkenwell has been known as the Little Italy of London thanks to its high population of Italians that lived in the area up until the 1960s. The area was also well-known for being a centre for watchmaking and watch repairing.
