The Isle Of Dogs is located in the East End of London and it once was an island that had three sides bounded by the River Thames. The area was first recorded in 1588, however experts believe that the area had been in use for some time before they.
There are many reasons that people have given for the name the Isle of Dogs and these range from it being a nickname meaning ‘dog’s life’ as anyone living there would have had a hard life to the fact that dead dogs would often wash up there from the Thames.
During the 19th century the area was urbanised and this brought more people to settle there. By the end of the Second World War when the docks were upgraded more residences were created. The closest Underground station in Canary Wharf and this is on the Jubilee line, there are also plenty of bus routes that operate in the area.
