Mile End is an area in the East End of London that is in the borough of Tower Hamlets. It was first created as an early suburb to serve the City of London and in 1855 it became a metropolitan area of London.
However while Mile End sounds quite a new development it was recorded as far back as 1288 when it was known as La Mile Ende. By 1691 people had begun to settle their and it was known as Mile End Old Town.
Today Mile End is a residential suburb that is popular with people who are looking for cheaper accommodation within the London area.
