Rayleigh is a civil parish and market town is located in the district of Rochford. It is approximately 32 miles away from the centre of London and thanks to a population expansion in the 1960s there are just over 30,000 people living there.
Experts believe that the name Rayleigh comes from Saxon times and there is plenty of evidence to point to there being a settlement here for many years, since prehistoric times. There are also remnants of Roman buildings which were in the area although it was not considered to be a highly populated part of the country at this time.
There is a good bus service that runs in the area and these buttons depart from the railway station. This means that getting to and from London is straightforward enough and some people will commute to the capital as there are frequent trains during the rush hour peak periods.
