St Albans is a city that is located in Hertfordshire and it is approximately 22 miles away from the centre of London.
St Albans has been a settlement since before the Roman occupation of England and it was classed as a major town as it was on Watling Street which was a Roman road. Up until the 20th century St Albans was classed as a rural market town with little development.
However from then onwards as people started to move away from London and into the surrounding areas it grew and became much more popular with people who were looking to commute to London.
