Tower Hamlets or the London Borough of Tower Hamlets as it is also known is located in the East of London and it is an area that covers most of what was traditionally classed as London's East End. It also covers the majority of the Docklands area of London such as Canary Wharf and West India Docks. The area is also known for having from some of the tallest buildings in the capital and the majority of these are mainly situated on the Isle of Dogs. The population of Tower Hamlets is around 220,000 and there is a large Bangladeshi community in the area.
During the start of the 20th century there was considerable overcrowding in Tower Hamlets and during World War II when bombing destroyed a lot of the East End the local residents began to disperse into the surrounding areas.
Today the area is known for being incredibly busy and having a wide range of different cultures in one place.
