York Hospital or York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation is a hospital that is in York. The hospital that is in the current location was opened in 1976 and at this time it had a total of 600 beds.
At this time the hospital was built to replace several smaller sites such as York County Hospital, Fulford Hospital, City Hospital and Deighton Grove Hospital that were all in the local area. Having all of these hospitals merged together meant that the local population had a much better service.
Today the hospital look after a population of around half 1 million people who are in North Yorkshire and it had more than 700 beds. There are many different inpatient and outpatient services and a Day Unit where minor operations are carried out. Inside the hospital there are plenty of facilities for patients and visitors including a 24-hour restaurant and a shop that is located in the main foyer.
