Bodmin is a historic town, located South West of Bodmin Moor, in the heart of Cornwall. One of the oldest towns in Cornwall is actually Bodmin and was actually the only Cornish settlement in the Domesday book in 1086, to be documented. In the mid-14th century, Bodmin had half of its population wiped out by the Black Death, which was 1,500 people at that current time. The town itself is a favourite of tourists, who are intrigued by the Cornish legends, the mystifying and enigmatic beast of the Bodmin Moor and the ghastly tales surrounding the Bodmin jail.
The main pillar throughout the whole of Cornwall and the bulk of Bodmin’s history and the pillar of the economy was the tin and copper industry. The landscape across Bodmin Moor is scattered with the remnants of derelict tin, copper and tin mines, alongside granite quarries.
Bodmin is also home to the Norman church of St Petroc, which sits proudly as the second largest church in Cornwall. It was founded as far back as the 6th century, though during the 15th century had to be mostly rebuilt, meaning the existing church structure is from 1469 to 1472.
