Rochester Castle is located on Castle Hill in the centre of Rochester. The tower-keep was built sometime around 1127 by William of Corbeil, the Archbishop of Canterbury. It has survived three sieges, including one by King John in 1215 when one corner of the keep was destroyed. The majority of the castle is still standing today, and you’ll find a shop and public toilets here, as well as a picnic area in the grounds. If you want to take an audio tour, you can hire one for £1 in English, French, German or Dutch.
