The Wilson, known as Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum until 2013, was opened in 1899 and is home to extensive museum collections of artwork, objects and archive material. It was renamed in honour of Dr Edward Wilson, who was born in Cheltenham and took part in Captain Scott’s doomed expedition to the South Pole in 1912. The museum is particularly famous for its collection of items related to the British Arts and Crafts Movement.
