The small town of Darley Dale is just along the A6 between Bakewell and Rowsey. It was once the home of Victorian engineer Sir Joseph Whitworth, whose wife Louisa carried out his plans for the enrichment and expansion of the village of Darley. Several buildings were funded by Whitworth’s estate, including the Whitworth Centre, which has undergone extensive renovations and now operates as a community centre and conference venue.
