The Cartoon Museum in London offers an exciting journey through the history of cartoons, caricatures, comics and animation – the majority being British artists.

The museum features cartoons from the mid 17th century right up until the present day. The great masters of the past, such as William Hogarth and James Gillary, are on display, as well as the more contemporary masters, such as Steve Bell And Nick Newman.

The museum houses over 6000 original pieces, which it draws on for its permanent and temporary exhibitions.

The Cartoon Museum was relaunched at the new location of 63 Wells street in July 2019 after undergoing a £1million redevelopment. When the museum first opened in 2006 it attracted 26,000 visitors per year. The new premises is expected to attract up to 55,000 visitors within the next three years.

The museum aims to be immersive, enjoyable, and educational; a place to pay tribute to the artform’s past and present, while supporting future cartoonists and comic artists. The Cartoon Museum is among 14 other museums that make up London’s Museum Mile which spans from Bloomsbury to the River Thames.

There is no charge for under-18s, London Pass holders, Cartoon Museum members, and registered disabled. However, as the museum receives no government funding, there are some admission charges. Tickets range from£8.50 for adults to £3 for students, with a concession price of £5 for those over 60.
