The Stephen Joseph Theatre was established in 1955 as England’s first theatre-in-the-round company. They were situated on the first floor of the Scarborough Library, and then moved to the former Scarborough Boys' High School in 1976. They weren’t able to find another place until the Odeon cinema closed, and they re-opened on the 30th of April 1996.
