The Crucible Theatre in Sheffield has been a popular theatrical venue since its opening in 1971, although it is better known by many for hosting the annual World Snooker Championship, snooker’s most prestigious tournament. None of the 980 seats are more than 20 metres away from the stage, making the layout perfect for productions that require an intimate relationship between the performer and their audience. In 2001, it was named Barclays’ Theatre of the Year.
