The Ryhope Engines Museum is based on the Ryhope Pumping Station, which ceased operation in 1967. It was built in 1868 to supply water to the Sunderland area and was used continuously for 100 years. Volunteers of the Ryhope Engines Trust keep the two 100 horsepower beam engines in working order so that visitors can view them at their best. The museum also has a blacksmith’s forge, a waterwheel, and numerous steam engines and pumps.
