West Malling is a small town in Kent which is home to around 2,500 people. The Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour was filmed around West Malling in 1967, and the town is thought to have been the site of the first recorded cricket match in Kent.
The town used to have its own Royal Air Force station which was in use during the First World War and then again from 1930 to 1969. On the site where the RAF West Malling used to be, you will now find the Kings Hill civil parish.
The famous Wing Commander Guy Penrose Gibson was stationed at the RAF West Malling during the Second World War. He was the leader of the Dam Busters raid which saw the destruction of two large dams in Germany in 1943.

St Leonard's Tower is thought to be the only remaining part of a castle that was built between 1077 and 1108 by Gundulf, Bishop of Rochester, who founded St Mary’s Abbey. Others think it might have been built by the Bishop Odo of Bayeux, who was the half-brother of William the Conqueror.

He led the famous Dam Busters raid in 1943, where bouncing bombs were used to destroy two dams and cause extensive flooding across the Ruhr area of Germany. He was awarded the Victoria Cross and completed over 170 operations before he was killed in action in 2944.
