The New London Theatre, or Gillian Lynne Theatre (named in honour of ballerina Gillian Lynne), was opened in 1973. The site has been a centre for entertainment since Elizabethan times, and once housed taverns and music halls. The current building seats 960 people over two levels, and is known for hosting musicals including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, War Horse, and Cats, which ran at the theatre from 1981 to 2002, making it the longest running musical in West End history.
