The current Hammersmith Town Hall is a Grade II listed building designed and constructed in the 1930s, making it an excellent surviving example of interwar architecture. However, though the foundation stone was laid in July 1938, the Town Hall was still not complete on the outbreak of war, and it suffered bomb damage in 1940 and 1944. It was fully repaired just in time for British victory celebrations in 1945, and is now a popular event venue.
