The Manchester Aquatics Centre is near the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University, south of the city centre. It was purpose-built for the 2002 Commonwealth Games and has a 50-metre pool, diving pool, training pool, and leisure pool, as well as a strength gym, cardio gym, and a performance gym. There is also a health suite, studio and café. 

The centre offers a wide range of lessons for just about anyone. You can start lessons for kids as early as 2 years old, and there are group lessons, one-on-one sessions, and women-only classes. Swimming sessions cater to a range of abilities and skill levels, and you can even attend the Tom Daley Diving Academy to learn how to dive. And, if you’re over 60, you swim for free! 

There is also a range of fitness classes available, offering sessions such as aqua aerobics, group cycling, high-intensity interval training, pilates, yoga, and Zumba. For something more personal, you can even see a personal trainer.

It is full of history and culture, home to iconic locations like The University of Manchester, where Ernest Rutherford split the atom in 1917. The Manchester Aquatics Centre is about 20 minutes’ walk from Manchester city centre. There, you’ll find the iconic spots like the Manchester Art Gallery which has collected over 25,000 pieces of fine art over 200 years.

By Train: The Manchester Oxford Road is a 10-minute walk away and services the E M R, Transpennine Express, Transport for Wales and northern lines.
