Villa Park was originally opened in 1897. It has been the home of Aston Villa since this date, though the club was founded 24 years earlier in 1874. The club were the original founding member of the Football League in 1888 and one of the founding members of the Premier League. They are also one of only 5 English clubs to have won the Champions League.
On match days there is a traffic exclusion zone in effect in the immediate vicinity of Villa Park as well as a Residents parking scheme. Due to this it is much easier to book your parking space prior to arrival and will generally result in a simpler and cheaper parking experience.
Most pubs near the stadium are specifically reserved for home fans. However, The Barton arms is popular with away fans and is just a 15-minute walk from Villa Park. It has a grade II listed building and also serves food. Alternatively, Star City is a good location to visit for food outlets. Drayton Park, the popular amusement park is also under 10 miles from Villa Park.
