Parking in The NEON

The NEON is a live music and vintage movie venue in Newport. The building was opened in 1938 as an Odeon cinema, but the cinema closed in 1981 and fell into disrepair. It was facing the possibility of demolition, but because it is one of the few examples of Art Deco architecture in the city, it was awarded Grade II listed status in 1999. It has since been redeveloped, and its current name, NEON, stands for Newport Entertains Our Nation – a pun on the original name, Odeon, which is rumoured to be derived from the founder’s motto: ‘Oscar Deutsch Entertains Our Nation’.
