Nearby Attractions
Pulteney Bridge crosses the River Avon and was built in 1774. It is unique in its construction with shops spanning across both sides, and has been designated a Grade I listed building. There are only four bridges in the world to have shops along the full span on both sides.
Bath Abbey dates all the way back to 757AD. It was rebuilt in the 12th and 16th centuries, with extensive restoration happening in 1611 and in the 1800s. A bomb was dropped nearby in 1942 during the Second World War, and the Great East Window and the windows on the north side were badly damaged. The Footprint project was launched in 2010 with the intention of completing repairs and creating a Song School and a new Discovery Centre.
The Roman baths date back over 2,000 years, and offer a glimpse into the life of Ancient Rome. This is one of the best-preserved Roman sites in northern Europe. Costumed actors live and work at the facility, and you can take an audio tour to learn more about the history of the bathhouse. Unfortunately, you can’t bathe here anymore, but the nearby Thermae Bath Spa is the perfect spot to take a dip and relax.
The Jane Austen Centre is a museum dedicated to her life, open from 10am to 5pm, Thursday to Sunday. You can try writing using a quill and ink, or have your photo taken while trying out some classic Regency clothing. There are also tea rooms and a gift shop available.
