Legend has it that St Patrick put his staff in the ground while trying to convert locals to Christianity: his mission took so long that the staff took root and an ash tree grew. Built around a major Roman road, the site is home to great archaeological interest, with the remains of a Viking Chief and many related artefacts unearthed there.
