Performance brand's first electric vehicle revealed, based on VW Group MEB platform

Details of the Cupra Born have been announced, with the EV set to offer a variety of options, with a 0-62mph time as low as 6.6 seconds available.

The longest range on offer is 335 miles on a full charge, from the largest of the three batteries available - 45 kWh, 58 kWh, or 77 kWh.

Cupra will offer a 150 hp (110 kW) 45 kWh model with a range of 211 miles as the entry model in the line-up. Above that come a pair of 58 kWh battery models, with either 204 hp (150 kW) or 231 hp (170 kW) motor set-ups - both have a range of 260 miles. Finally, there's a 231 hp 77 kWh model, with the headline 335 mile range.

Ultra-rapid recharging is possible at up to 125 kW on the 77 kWh model, with 100 kW available elsewhere in the range.

Equipment available includes an augmented reality head-up display, which allows for a more compact, driver-focused instrument binnacle. A 12-inch infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, My Cupra app connectivity, and comprehensive safety suite are also fitred or optional.

Production starts in September, with UK pricing due in Q4 2021, and deliveries starting in 2022.
