Stadium Of Light Parking
Information about Parking in Stadium of Light
The Stadium of Light is one of the largest football stadiums in England and it has a capacity of 49,000. It has been the home of Sunderland AFC since 1997, when they moved from Roker Park football ground where they had played since 1897. It is to the south of the River Wear and it is a popular venue in the north east. The current owner of the stadium is Stewart Donald and he took over in 2018.
The name of the stadium is inspired by the historic links Sunderland has to the mining industry and the thousands of miners who spent their days underground before returning to the light in the evening. Sunderland AFC, often nicknamed The Black Cats, have won 6 league titles and 2 FA cups. Sunderland were once in the premier league but currently play in football league one.
The stadium is also an amazing venue for artists to play live and acts including: The Kings of Leon, Rihanna, Coldplay and Take That have all taken to the stage. In addition to this, the stadium also has excellent banqueting and conference facilities, making it more than just a place to watch football for 90 minutes.
Sunderland railway station is located roughly 15 minutes from the Stadium of Light and there is also the Stadium of Light metro station which connects to Newcastle. There is limited parking at the ground and a resident only parking scheme in effect in the immediate vicinity. This means it is easiest to secure your parking space in advance of arrival and is generally much quicker and cheaper than other alternatives. While there is a park and ride scheme, this can be off putting for some people who want to park closer to the stadium.
There is a Sunderland Fan Zone located at the Stadium of Light that features live music and food and drink outlets and this can get very busy with Sunderland supporters on match days. There are also a wide variety of pubs, bars, and restaurants in the city centre, should you wish to eat and drink. There are also some great attractions and things to do in the area such as Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens and the Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art.

Latest Stadium of Light parking reviews
Highly recommend, hassle free cheap parking, will definitely use again when visiting Stadium of Light, less than 5 minute walk.Michelle
It was easy pre paying . I had read reviews so and had made myself ready that even though I paid there is no space guarantee as it’s first come first served , so when I got the space it was great. Just drove in, parked and exited when needed. No need to inform anyone etc as it’s all done via the website or app on payment. I will use it again .Ayesha
Excellent really easy to use great value for money will definitely use again next time we’re down from Scotland to watch the SunderlandSandra

Convenient for Stadium of Light. Bit nervous of signs limiting parking time despite reassurance from your parking space but have now used twice on match days with no issues.Peter
The parking was good, easy to find and close to Sunderland Theatre. The only concern I have is when I arrived there was only one parking space which I took but what would I have done if there where no spaces leftCarl
There was a space. I used it and then 4 hours later I left. What more can you say. It worked for me.Bob
