It sits outside the Promenade in the town centre, and was first unveiled to the public in 1893, when it was intended to add an artistic flair to the busy thoroughfare. Today the vast statue of Neptune in his chariot still attracts admirers, particularly when it’s all lit up in the darkness of winter evenings.
