Travelling between Dover and Calais with a vehicle is possible with P&O Ferries and with DFDS Seaways. DFDS Seaways also offers a service between Dover and Dunkirk for motorists which operates 12 times a day and takes around 2 hours.

The Port of Dover also has a public marina located just 20 miles from France which makes it perfect for channel crossings in private boats. There are 160 berths at The Wellington Dock, 107 berths at the Tidal Harbour and 133 berths at Grainville Dock.

Dover is an important and historic port, with evidence that the Romans used the port and moving forward to more modern history, in 1422 Richard Coeur de Lion left from Dover on the crusade.  It is also famous for the surrounding and beautiful White Cliffs of Dover.

This car park is around 2 and a half miles from the port and shuttle buses run frequently to the docks. Parking is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with charges starting at £5.25 per day. Dover Port Parking is a service run independently of the port itself. They provide 24 parking with space for over 300 vehicles. If you are departing Dover on a cruise or ferry you are able to leave your vehicle here and use their minibus service to get to the Dover cruise terminal. Cruise parking is from £5 per day. This service needs to be booked in advance online or by calling 01304 211718.

If you are using the marina at the Port of Dover there is parking available near the Marina Office, the Granville Dock and Wellington Dock. Prices for parking in these areas starts at £11.00 per month or £125.00 for annual berth permit holders.

By Train: The closest train station to the Port of Dover is Dover Priory station which links London and Dover. It is around a 25-minute walk from this station to the passenger terminal at the Port.

By Ferry: International cruises stop at the Port of Dover, and passenger ferries run from Calais and Dunkirk in France.

By Plane: The nearest airport is Gatwick which is around an 1 and a half hour drive from Dover.

What services are available at the Port of Dover?

The Passenger Terminal for those crossing the channel on a ferry as a foot passenger includes a taxi rank, hire car services, a Costa Coffee kiosk and public toilets. 

The Passenger Services Building East is open for check-in for ferry passengers and services available there include currency exchange services, toilets, free WiFi, Costa Coffee, WHSmiths and a Burger King. The Passenger Services Building West also has the same facilities as the east building.
