Established in 1897 by Ampleforth Abbey, St Benet's Hall is a Benedictine foundation whose main historical function was to allow its monks to study for secular degrees at the University. It became a Permanent Private Hall of the University 20 years later, and retains ancient Benedictine tradition by seeking to nourish mind, body and spirit.
