The main University of Hertfordshire campus is located on College Lane, about 20 minutes’ walk from the centre of Hatfield. The de Havilland campus is just a few minutes away on Mosquito Way.
The University of Hertfordshire began as the Hatfield Technical College in 1952. It was awarded university status and became the University of Hertfordshire in 1992. It currently has over 24,600 students within the UK (including 3,800 international students), and 6,400 students studying courses from the University of Hertfordshire outside of the UK. The university is one of the biggest employers in the Hertfordshire area, with around 2,700 staff.
At the College Lane campus, you’ll find the Forum; an event venue and nightclub that is a popular hangout for students at the university. BIG Wednesdays are the most popular nights of the week with deals, guest DJs, and giveaways. Every Friday, the Forum Hertfordshire hosts Global Beats, so you can enjoy live music from all over the world as well as karaoke and cocktails.

If you’re a student or staff, you can park on campus, or you can use the park and ride service just off junction 2 of the A1(M). You don’t need an e-permit for this, but you’ll have to buy a ticket for the shuttle bus, which costs £1 per day per vehicle.
For students, if you want to park on campus, you can park without an e-permit in the multi-storey car park beside the Forum. The first 30 minutes of parking here will be free, then up to 5 hours of parking will cost £3, and anything over 5 hours of parking will cost £5. If you have an e-permit you can park in green or orange parking zones for a daily cost of £3. You don’t need a permit to park on bank holidays, or when the university is closed, or outside of charging hours. As long as you register your motorcycle with the university, you can park for free on campus.
Staff will need an e-permit to park on campus. You can choose to pay the daily cost of £3, or pay for an annual permit via deductions from your salary or an upfront online payment. Staff can park in the blue, green, and orange parking zones.
