Nearby Attractions
The historic Barrington Court is a 10-minute drive from the centre of Ilminster. It’s an empty Tudor manor house that was restored in the 1920s and has farm buildings, beautiful flowers, and orchards. There are a number of gardens across the estate, as well as a kiosk to get a coffee and a snack, and a store to purchase a souvenir.
The East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are about 10 minutes’ drive from Ilminster. They stretch along the coastline known as the Jurassic Coast, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Rock formations along the coastline date as far back as the Triassic period, and exposed cliffs are great spots to find fossils.
If you don’t mind a bit of a drive, Seaton Beach is the perfect spot to get some peace and quiet. It’s about 40 minutes’ drive from Ilminster and offers a mile-long pebbled waterfront. You can rent paddleboards and kayaks here, and dogs are allowed on the beach all year round. There are plenty of places along the esplanade where you can enjoy a meal with views of the ocean.
