Southport Beach is located just 40 minutes’ drive north of Liverpool and stretches over 22 miles of coastline. Southport is a large coastal town, home to over 90,000 residents.
Here, you’ll find the second-longest pier in England which was built in 1860 and stretches over 1,108 metres. Initially, it was 1,340m, but after a number of storms and fires, the pier had to be shortened slightly. It has hosted entertainers such as Charlie Chaplain and has been a Grade II listed building since 1975.
The beach is home to the Southport Air Show each September, where you can enjoy two days of aerial shows, flight simulators, interactive and educational displays, and a military display with a simulated battle. The Southport Air Show is an annual event that began in 1991 and draws tens of thousands of spectators every year.
Southport is also home to the Southport Weekender Festival, the Food and Drink Festival, the Southport Flower Show, the Southport Halloween Festival, and the British Musical Fireworks Championship.

The easiest option for Southport Beach parking is to park on the beach itself. Beach parking is available from Easter until September and will cost between £4.50 - £6.00. Please note that the beach might be closed during high tide. There is also parking at Ainsdale Beach and on Lifeboat Road in Formby.
There is a Park and Ride facility at the Eco Visitor Centre that is available throughout the year. You can leave your car there and then catch a bus into the town centre for £2.00. You can also park coaches at the Eco Visitor Centre for £5.00 per day.

Residents can apply for a parking permit in designated parking spaces. You will need to provide proof of residence and proof of ownership of your vehicle.
You can also apply for a permit for a town centre parking permit if there is pay and display parking outside of your home and there is no provision for off-street parking. To register, you’ll have to pay the £30 fee and prove your eligibility. This permit will allow you to pay in a pay and display spot without having to pay for it or adhere to the time limit.

The Southport Pier is the second-longest pier in the country at 1,108 metres long. It is a Grade II listed structure and was first opened in 1860, making it the oldest iron pier in the country. The pier was closed in 2000 for a £7.2 million restoration and opened again in 2002. In 2003, it was named Pier of the Year by the National Piers Society.
Princes Park sits right beside the beach and is home to the King's Gardens, Southport Pleasureland, Silcock's Funland, and the Southport Model Railway Village. Southport Pleasureland has over 100 rides, a go-kart track, restaurants and a bar. Silcock's Funland is Southport's largest family amusement centre and has games, rides, a casino, and a carousel. The park also has a collection of restaurants and shops, plus a cinema and ten-pin bowling. Across the road is Splash World, a fitness centre and water park with a gym, pool sports hall, flume rides and a bubble spa.
According to their website, the Atkinson is known as “Southport’s home for music, theatre, art, literature and history”. It has over 3,500 artworks and over 25,000 pieces of history, as well as an Egyptology Gallery and an exhibit dedicated to Sefton’s Coast. It also has a café and library.

By Train: The Southport train station is about 10 minutes’ walk from the beach and services the Merseyrail and northern lines.
By Bus: There are several bus lines that run through Southport, including 15, 15A, 44, 46, 46B, and 49.
By Car: Southport sits at the intersection of the A565 and the A570, about 40 minutes’ drive north of Liverpool.
